Saundra Starks elected to Chair CSWE Board of Directors

The WKU Department of Social Work is very proud to announce that our own Dr. Saundra Starks has been elected the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Council on Social Work Education!
Dr. Saundra Starks, LCSW is a professor of Social Work and the MSW Program Director at Western Kentucky University. She has over 40 years of social work practice experience which includes teaching, research, consultation, training, supervision and clinical practice. She has numerous presentations and publications in the areas of diversity, women, spirituality, mental health, supervision, cultural competency and leadership training. Her bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Social Welfare is from Western Kentucky University, and both her master’s degree in Social Work and her doctorate in Counseling Psychology are from the University of Louisville. Dr. Starks maintains a part time psychotherapy practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky (Bower, Starks, Reeves & Hayes). In addition, she serves on several national, international and local community service committees and boards. She is the most recent past Chair of the Bowling Green International Center board for refugee resettlement. Dr. Starks has an extensive background of teaching study abroad courses in Taiwan, Tanzania, Ghana and Belize. She currently has a research project called Project Rafiki in Tanzania that is an interdisciplinary food assistance program to a center that provides services for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Founded in 1952, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is the governing body and accreditation organization that ensures quality social work education in over 800 BSW and MSW programs across the United States. Dr. Starks is a leader, a mentor, and an inspiration. Please join us in recognizing WKU’s own Dr. Saundra Starks in this very prestigious accomplishment!
