Cultural Enhancement Series season concludes with The Silkroad Ensemble and Cuban Rap

One week before a live performance by The Silkroad Ensemble the 2018-2019 Cultural Enhancement Series presents a free showing of the documentary film The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and The Silkroad Ensemble. The showing is on Tuesday, March 26 at Van Meter Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and this event is open to the public.
This is the latest film from the creators of the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom and the critically-hailed Best of Enemies, follows an ever-changing lineup of performers drawn from the ensemble’s more than 50 instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers as they gather in locations across the world, exploring the ways art can both preserve traditions and shape cultural evolution.
On Tuesday, April 2 The Silkroad Ensemble will perform live at Van Meter Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and this event is open to the public. Priority seating for WKU students will begin at 6:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. with a valid WKU ID.
The last event of the season features the Cuban Rap duo Obsesión. Magia López and Alexey Rodriguez formed Obsesión in 1996 and quickly gained fame in Cuba both for their messages of social activism and the Afro-Cuban consciousness of their rap verses. Beyond contributing to Rap Cubano through their music, both singers play an active role in fostering the local Cuban artistic community.
