The Kentucky Museum has published its exhibition schedule for Spring semester, welcoming significant additions to its roster of rotating arts shows.
Already on view are two small exhibitions. Photographing Western presents six works by WKU photographer Clinton Lewis of life across campus, from the famous white squirrel sightings to unforgettable moments in our recent history. Accompanying these works are historic cameras detailing the history of photographic technology. Meanwhile, in the stairwells of the historic 1939 building, selected works of Kentucky artists Dorothy Grider (1915-2012) and Ivan Wilson (1889-1981) are on view.
From February 19 to March 15, the Museum is thrilled to welcome back the Kentucky Art Education Association’s All-State Elementary and Middle School Art Show. This exhibit features works from elementary and middle school students across the Commonwealth working in a range of two-dimensional mediums. A closing awards reception will be held on March 15.
The Abound Credit Union Celebration of the Arts is now accepting entries from artists living within a 65-mile radius of Bowling Green. The exhibition will open to the public on March 7, and is anticipated to feature around 200 works by local artists. The exhibit will be on view from March 7 to April 18.
From April 16 to June 21, the annual Arts for All Kentucky Side by Side exhibition will open, showcasing the works of students who have completed this spring’s program alongside teaching artists.
Following these shows, the Museum is thrilled to announce two new exhibits drawn from its permanent fine art collections: We the Artists and Treasures of the Collection. Both will be on view in the Museum’s expanded second floor galleries.
We the Artists celebrates local artists and the contributions they – and their works – make to our communities. The exhibition features the works of over 30 local Kentucky artists, whose works are held in the Kentucky Museum’s permanent collection. Artists include Yvonne Petkus, Jacqui Lubbers, Neil Peterie, Shanna Paul, Dean Christensen, Wickliffe Covington, Mitchell Granville, Alice Gatewood-Waddell, Charles Forrester, and Jackie Abrams. We the Artists opens April 2.
Treasures of the Collection presents over five centuries of art history – some for the first time. The exhibition showcases 27 of the museum’s estimated 1,000 works, from Flemish artist Adriaen Brouwer's The Prize (c. 1630-38) to Harlan Hubbard's Wellsburg, Kentucky, on the Ohio River (late 20th century). Other works include religious scenes, portraits, one of Bowling Green's own female botanists, the first artist recognized for the use of x-ray technology, the pioneers of pop art…and a Picasso. Treasures of the Collection opens May 7.
