Imagewest has launched a fundraising campaign for the construction of the Bransford Family Memorial that will honor some of the original Mammoth Cave slave guides, freemen guides and their family members.
This campaign was part of Imagewest’s boot camp project, a week where interns work together to complete a project for a non-profit client. This client, in particular, was completely pro bono and the interns were able to complete the entire campaign in less than a week.
Imagewest, a student-run advertising and public relations agency at WKU, wanted to share the story of the Bransford legacy. Jerry Bransford, a descendant of the original Mammoth Cave guides and a current cave guide, is trying to create a memorial to honor his ancestors who were laid to rest in the family cemetery, in which many of the graves remain unmarked and the history of the site remains untold. The memorial was designed by Cave Guide Dr. John Yakel.
“My mission is to let everybody know, from everywhere, the role of black men, not just my ancestors, but people of color,” Bransford said. “There were black guides who were not kin to me at all, but they served and worked in the cave just as greatly as the Bransfords.”
“Here at Imagewest, we strive to produce noteworthy and meaningful campaigns. We were moved by Jerry and his story,” said Kara Williams, Agency Manager at Imagewest. “His family is an important part of history, and their memory deserves to be preserved. We are honored to help share the story of the Bransford Legacy.”
Imagewest launched a full campaign in which they constructed promotional materials, a social media presence and a website including videos, photos, stories and a map to locate the memorial site. A GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/bransfordfamilymemorial was launched to accept donations to help fund the monument and its installation.
