Melanie Joy, a contemporary violinist, composer, and teacher, found her passion for music at a very young age.  She studied classical in Columbus, Ohio with Leonid Polonsky (associate concertmaster of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra), and was a part of the Chamber Music Connection which gave her a passion for chamber music.  In high school, Melanie Joy discovered her true passion for jazz and improvisation and moved to Nashville to pursue this passion. She received her undergraduate and masters from Belmont University in Commercial Violin Performance where she studied with Elisabeth Small, Tracy Silverman, Tammy Rogers, and Billy Contreras. For her master’s thesis, she researched the life and musical concepts of her teacher and mentor and Nashville Country legend, Buddy Spicher.

Most recently, Melanie toured throughout the US with the Peter Mayer Group (guitarist for Jimmy Buffet) for his Christmas tour entitled “Stars and Promises.”  Other prolific musicians on this tour included Chris Walters (Alabama and The Jeff Coffin Mutet) and R. Scott Bryan (Sheryl Crowe).

Her Television appearances include: Nashville as a musician during the season finale, the 2011 and 2012 CMA Awards, the 2010 and 2011 and 2012 CMA Country Christmas, and the 2010 Dove Awards at the Grand Ol' Opry.  A few of the artists she performed behind include Vince Gill, Amy Grant, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, and Rascal Flatts.  She also performed with Rod Stewart for his Nashville appearance at the Bridgestone Arena.

She is currently performing with many local Nashville bands, and plays and writes string arrangements for recording sessions.  She performs often with singer-songwriter Lo Marie, and recorded on her latest album, Beyond the Age of Reason.  She also arranged the strings for Adam Ilami’s “She Goes By Lonely.”

Melanie Joy teaches private violin lessons, works with Nashville's Music City Youth Orchestra, and has taught at many summer string camps.  She also enjoys the art of composition and songwriting, and would love to share her original music. Please visit her facebook page and click "like.”
