Convocation

On Sunday evening, after all the boxes have been upacked, room furniture has been re-arranged, and forgotten items have been purchased, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants head out to their very first campus event as Hilltoppers: Convocation. During Convocation, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants compete in Roll Call and Spirit competitions, learn the WKU Fight Song and Alma Mater, and receive their very own Red Towels. President Ransdell formally welcomes the new class to WKU, and Western Leaders lead the class in reciting the Western Creed. At the conclusion of Convocation, members of the new class are officially inducted as members of the WKU family. The convocation program seamlessly combines school spirit with an important message about success in college.

CloseUp Theatre Troupe

A M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participant favorite, the CloseUp Theatre Troupe of Eastern Michigan University performs a series of skits about college life. Skits addressing transitional issues such as living with a roommate, binge drinking, and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, engage audience members in a sort of emotional dialogue, and set the tone for the rest of the week's activities.

WK&U

At WK&U, representatives from various campus student organizations perform dances, songs, and skits, showcasing not only the talent, but the diversity of the WKU student body. WK&U provides an opportunity for program participants to learn more about student organizations and to "find their niche" on WKU's campus. Last year's performers included members from NPHC groups, the Student Government Association, Student Identity Outreach, and many others. This event is all about finding WKYOU!

Big Red's Blitz

Every August, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants "blitz" Bowling Green, providing three hours of service to local non-profit agencies during the campus' largest community service event: Big Red's Blitz. Volunteers, also known as "Blitzers," are sent out into the community in groups of 10-20 to work alongside Big Red, Western Leaders, and fellow classmates completing various service projects. Whether they're sorting items at The Salvation Army, cleaning up local parks and wooded areas with Bowling Green Public Works, pulling invasive species at Lost River Cave, organizing building materials with Habitat for Humanity, or painting picnic tables at Potter Children's Home, Blitzers are choosing to "get off the bench" and engage in their community! Big Red's Blitz provides a great opportunity for students to develop relationships with their classmates and form connections with community leaders, while gaining an appreciation for service and positively impacting the Bowling Green community. Over 2,200 students participated in the Class of 2017 photo, the real question is whether or not the Class of 2018 will break their record and boast the largest class photo at WKU!

Campus and Community Involvement Fair

A key factor in success in college is involvement in the campus community through residence hall councils, intramurals, club sports, or campus ministries. At the Campus and Community Involvement Fair, students learn more about how to make the most of their college experience by getting involved in any one of the 300+ student organizations on WKU's campus! During the fair, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants collect information from representatives of student organizations hosting tables at the event.

TopperU

Students are sure to catch the spirit...and tons of free t-shirts and other stuff...at TOPPERU! WKU Athletics head coaches lead M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants in cheers, while the Big Red Marching Band, Topperettes, and WKU Cheerleaders wow the crowd. The "Most Spirited Award" is presented to the students showing the most school spirit. Last year's winners cheered the loudest, waived posters, slathered their bodies in paint, and walked away with fabulous prizes including portable DVD players, laptops, and gaming systems. Let's see what antics win this year's award!
