Library Committees

Committee Names



Communicates regularly about system updates to understand and explore system functionality and enhancements that will improve workflow, to educate and inform faculty and staff directly affected by any changes in a consistent manner, and to address suggestions for future improvements.


Promotes WKU Libraries by developing a comprehensive plan of services, resources, publications; defines ways to engage library faculty liaisons in strengthening campus partnerships.


Creates Helm-Cravens' displays featuring speaker series, special events, & "International  Year of" items plus other services as appropriate; includes the Featured Books area near the Leisure Books on Cravens 4.

Evelyn Thurman Young Readers Award

Determines viable contenders; discusses, evaluates, and selects winner(s); Confirms author(s) appearance for award luncheon; assists literary outreach and marketing coordinators with travel, lodging, and area school visits.

Faraway Flix

Partners with International Student Office (ISO), Film Studies, WellU, Student Activities Center, and Office of International Programs to review film content to offer WKU constituents International films each year beginning with the "International Year of" grant-funded program.


Generates ideas and organizes events for WKU Libraries during the Homecoming Week.

Kentucky Literary Award (Partnership)

A partnership of representatives from the SOKY Book Fest organizers, WKU, and Barnes & Noble, it reviews potential books, selects a slate of finalists, and picks a winner who is announced at the "Meet the Authors Reception."

Leisure Films

Selects titles to be purchased. The films are arranged alphabetically by title. New titles are displayed at the beginning of the collection in VPAL.

Leisure Magazines

Consists of library faculty and staff; meets twice a year to review the current list of subscriptions; recommends new titles and cancellations. Collection is housed in Cravens, VPAL, and some regional campus libraries.


Oversees and coordinates issues of format, content, and policy relating to the WKU Libraries' Springshare LibGuides software.

McNaughton Audio Books

Determines which leased books (in cd and mp3 format) to purchase for the circulating collection located in the VPAL; orders 6 to 8 titles a month; and withdraws about that many at the same time.

McNaughton Leisure Reading

Determines which leased books will be ordered and possibly added to the permanent collection.

Open Access Week

Organizes week of activities with emphasis on opportunity for publishing, research, and outreach through TopSCHOLAR, SelectedWorks, copyright, and open access in general.


Monitors and improves the discovery side of the integrated library system, including mobile applications. The committee will develop a form similar to that used by the Continuing Resources Committee in order to standardize, review, and respond to requests for enhancements.


Collaborates with the university-wide REACH Week Committee for the Student Research Conference and other activities for a week-long celebration.

Social Media

Enhances the user experience and informs/interacts with the user on disseminating information; announces events, services and collections; increases followers on social media platforms; increases awareness of library service and resources; and fosters a sense of community about the library.


Collects and maintains statistics for all areas of the library. Unit Coordinators are all ex officio members who gather information about their own units. The chair collates and disseminates this information for such uses as survey responses, the university's Fact Book, accreditation, and other inquiries.


Recommends, implements, and analyzes library surveys and provides outcomes assessment and executive summaries in a timely manner.

Undergraduate Research Award

Evaluates student research projects; chooses 2-3 awards per semester for best UC 175 bibliography on an assigned topic (main campus) and one award in the fall for best subject-specific bibliography; and chooses a best UCC 175C career essay (South Campus) each semester.

Web Advisory

Advises the chair on Libraries' projects; recommends changes to policies and procedures regarding WKU Libraries' web & emerging technologies; coordinates with faculty & staff on web & social network content publication; exercises quality control over WKU Libraries' website and social networking content; and seeks consultation from LLC and approval of the Dean for changes that affect WKU Libraries.

We've Been Everywhere

Produces a speaker’s series that features  travel and research of WKU Library faculty and staff, usually scheduling two speakers each semester.

"International Year of"(IYO) (campus)

A campus-wide committee, it prepares reading lists, speakers, and other resources that support campus focus.
