African Americans can trace their ancestry but there are increased obstacles posed by slavery and other unique sets of challenges, but these obstacles can be overcome in many cases. The main challenge is getting started and getting back to 1870. This program highlights the best to place to start and that is with yourself and what you know about your immediate family and go backwards from there. Taking it one generation at a time will lead to finding your family's history.
