Kentucky Mesonet Expands to 58 Sites

The Kentucky Mesonet recently added two new observing stations. The first site is located in Meade County, about four miles southwest of Brandenburg and is near the path of the devastating tornado of April 3, 1974 that damaged numerous homes near Irvington and killed 28 people in Brandenburg. The second site is located is Marion County, approximately eight miles northwest of Lebanon near the community of Loretto.

In addition, an agreement was reached to install a new station at a valley location in Whitesburg, county seat of Letcher County. This site represents a partnership between WKU and the City of Whitesburg and will be a valuable addition to our network of ridge top and valley bottom monitoring sites in eastern Kentucky.
