Kentucky P-12 Educator Tuition Discount For School Counseling

The School Counseling Program is designed to train counselors and help elementary and secondary students increase academic achievement; explore and plan for careers; and facilitate social, personal, and emotional development. School counseling graduates will acquire the necessary tools to work with students individually and in groups. In addition, graduates will be prepared to work collaboratively with teachers and administrators. Finally, school counseling graduates will be prepared to initiate change in entire school systems in order to make broad changes in the lives of students and the community.

The School Counseling Program provides opportunities to develop essential competencies for School Counseling professionals. The program is part of the nationally accredited professional education unit and is also accredited by the international counseling accrediting body, CACREP. The School Counseling Program includes content and supervised clinical experiences required by CACREP accreditation standards and content specified by professionally endorsed national models for School Counselor preparation. This 48-hour program leads to the Master of Arts in Education degree and provisional certification for School Counselors in all grade levels, primary through grade twelve. The School Counseling Program in the Department of Counseling and Student Affairs at WKU is committed to training highly competent professional School Counselors. This challenging program is designed for individuals who want to develop a clear professional identity as a School Counselor.

The School Counseling Program admits once per year in the fall and includes online and hybrid classes. Because the program focuses on the development of students, both professionally and personally, many courses are face to face. The program also requires supervised clinical experiences in schools.
