Museum for All Fund

Museums should be free for all. Thanks to a three-year pilot grant, the Kentucky Museum has seen this point in action: in the first year, our visitation grew by 45% and continues to grow. Each day, we welcome more diverse visitors – across all demographics, both at the museum and in our virtual offerings – and this has emphasized the need for us to remain free in perpetuity.

To address this need, the Kentucky Museum has established the Museum for All Fund. This program will provide revenue traditionally gathered through paid admission, which supports initiatives such as diversifying our collections, offering paid internships and graduate assistantships to students, ensuring equitable honorariums for guest curators and speakers, and ensure participation in our programs and events for underrepresented audiences.

A minimum of $450,000 is needed to secure Free Admission in perpetuity.

Gifts of any size are welcome to support this endeavor. Make a secure online gift by clicking the button below, or download this PDF for information about major gift and naming opportunities.

Gifts can be made through one-time, multi-year or planned estate giving, or through collaborative giving with others.

Methods of Giving a Major Gift

Endowments can be established by one-time or installment gifts. In the installment model, you chose the amount and schedule of payments to achieve your total desired gift. This method can help spread the benefits of charitable giving over multiple tax years, depending on your unique situation.

Endowments can also be established through collaborative giving by multiple individuals. In this model, each donor makes a gift - either one-time or installment - that is added to the principle of the endowment. The WKU Foundation and Kentucky Museum work with donors to determine schedules of payment and recognition strategies. Together, your gifts demonstrate how community-based giving is a key for acheiving our mission.

Did you know you can rollover your IRA to make a major gift?

The Charitable IRA Rollover allows individuals age 70 1/2 and older to make direct transfers of up to $100,000 per year ($200,000 for married couples) from IRAs. The gift does not qualify as taxable income nor as a charitable deduction, but is eligible to be counted towards your required minimum distribution (RMD). Please consult your financial or tax advisor to ensure this is an appropriate giving avenue for your unique situation.
