PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS

The Kentucky Museum is seeking qualified applicants for the following:

 

Part-Time Exhibits Preparator

Constructs, fabricates, installs, and finishes exhibit constructions. Handles, cleans, and prepares artifacts and materials for exhibition following prescribed museum methodology. Constructs exhibit props, acrylic boxes, specialty mounts and installs museum artifacts and collection documents. Mats and frames, in an archival manner, museum artifacts and collection documents. Designs, produces, and installs computer-generated labels and constructs signage for exhibitions as well as creating digital tours of exhibits. Operates woodworking equipment, small electrical tools, paint sprayer and other construction-related equipment. General tasks related to collections maintenance and physical moving of large exhibit cases and installations, building and maintenance of shelves units at off-site storage faculty in accordance with museum practice.

WKU Students - Part-Time Docents

The Kentucky Museum is seeking qualified applicants for multiple student docent positions. Specifically, we are looking for students that have availability to work Wednesday and Fridays, either 9AM-12PM or 12PM-4PM. We are also looking for students who can work Thursdays either 9AM-12PM or 12PM-4PM. All  student docents work alternating Saturdays 9AM-4PM with a 30 minute unpaid lunch. Also, students work occasional evening events, such as exhibit openings, special programs, etc. Docent hours will vary Wednesday through Friday plus rotating Saturdays, as the Museum is open Wednesday-Saturday 9 am - 4 pm. The position requires students to memorize scripts, interact with guests, help with tours, provide gallery security, and more. Looking for outstanding students with good communication skills, and ability to work with a variety of visitors.

Student must have at least one of these times of availability:

  1. Wednesdays and Fridays 9-12 or 12-4
  2. Thursdays 9-12 or 12-4
  3. Note: Full days of any of these days would also work with a 30 minute unpaid lunch, it is just rare that we to find students with all day availability.
  4. All students work alternating Saturdays 9-4 with a 30 minute unpaid lunch. 
  5. Pay is $8.00 per hour.
