International Year of Cuba: The Other Side of Paradise Book Club

Read Julia Cooke's book The Other Side of Paradise: Life in the New Cuba and join Professors Julie Shadoan (Paralegal Studies) and Francesca Sunkin (Spanish) for two group discussions. Each participant will receive a free copy of the book and coffee is provided!

Registration is limited to 20 participants, so please email julie.shadoan@wku.edu or francesca.sunkin@wku.edu by February 18th in order to register.

International Year of Cuba: Arte Cubano Opening Reception

  • Location: Kentucky Museum

The Kentucky Museum is hosting Arte Cubano from March 9th through March 28th. The exhibition celebrates Cuba's incredible diversity and represents more than twenty-five Cuban artists' runminations on the quotidian, social, and political realities of the island and the contemporary world.

Visiting scholar James Count Early and Cuban restaurateurs will be participating in a panel discussion titled Ice Cream and Capitalism: Doing Business in the New Cuba.

International Year of Cuba: Artist Residency, Renesito Avich

  • Location: FAC 189
  • Time: 7:00pm

Traditional Cuban musician Renesito Avich will hold master classes for students and an open performance for the community in this International Year of Cuba event.

Master classes are on 3/27 @ 4pm, 3/28 @ 9:30am, and the evening performance is on 3/28 @ 7pm.

This event is being sponsored by the Folk Studies and Anthropology, Music, and Theatre and Dance departments.
