  • Time: 7:00pm
  • Location: Cherry Hall 125Cherry Hall 125

The International Year of Cuba is hosting a Spring semester Cuban film festival. All screenings are at 7:00pm. This program is sponsored by the WKU Office of International Programs, English Department, and History department.

Memorias de desarollo (Memories of Overdevelopment), directed by Miguel Coyula, is an indirect follow-up to the classic 1968 film Memories of Underdevelopment (and likewise based on a novel by Edmundo Desnoes), and utilizes a variety of experimental techniques to illustrate the experiences of an intellectual who leaves Revolutionary Cuba but finds a different set of problems in the "developed" world. This critically acclaimed film was the first feature to have scenes shot in both Cuba and the U.S. (113 min)

Oracion (Prayer), directed by Marisol Trujillo, Miriam Talavera, and Pepin Rodriguez, is a short experimental film based on a text by Nicaraguan Sandinista priest Ernesto Cardenal. This film cuts together images of Marilyn Monroe with documentary footage of warfare and devastation to produce a surprisingly sympathetic protrait of the tragic life of the actress set in the context of a brutal modern world. (8 min).

Both films will be screened on Apr 18th in Cherry Hall 125.

Note: The films being screened on April 18th include adult content.
