Printstallation Invasion: Eunkang Koh

  • Date: Thursday, March 2nd, 2017 through Friday, April 7th, 2017
  • Time: All Day
  • Location: FAC Gallery
Description:

Printstallation Invasion is a solo exhibition that combines printmaking, soft sculpture and installation. The exhibition focuses on social phenomena in our contemporary consumerist society.  Eunkang Koh believes that the lifestyle and thinking processes of humans are ruled by money and capitalism. Society’s goals are to become richer and wealthier so that we can consume even more. Consumption, driven by endless desires, triggers identity crises. Trying to fit into this consumer culture makes individuals lose their own identities and personalities. A combination of animal and human creatures represent a portrait of us, humans as social animals and the society that we live in. She portrays a society we are living in through the creation of creature hybrids, which express the absurdity of the human world.  They portray ironic gestures that create a mixture of humor and grotesqueness, reflecting life in our consumerist society.  The creatures are symbolic of those humans who are dimwitted and un-knowing, or who choose not to see anything beyond the ‘facts’ that they are taught.

This exhibition is curated by Professor Marilee Salvator.
