Lab Software Installation Request
If you are WKU faculty or staff and you would like to submit suggestions to install new software for Student Technology's computer labs, first please read Software Install Request FAQs. After reading, you may access the software installation request form.
Yes, if you are WKU Faculty or Staff member, and if your software is compatible with the lab computers, and if you have arranged for enough licensed copies of the software. To start the process of getting your software installed on the lab computers, fill out the form at bottom of this page.
Your software needs to run on Microsoft Windows 7. After you have filled out the request form and send a copy of your software with the valid licensing information, we will test it for compatibility with the rest of our existing applications.
You will need the appropriate number of licenses to make the software available on the lab computers. The number of licenses required should be the maximum number of simultaneous users ever needing to use the software. If you have classes of 50 students who need to use the software, the maximum number of software you need is 50. Student Technology will retain the license documentation or proof of legal use and backup copies of the software media as long as the software is installed on our computer lab workstations and/or servers.
Yes, we will work to make your freeware, shareware or public domain software available in the labs. You will need to provide a licensing documentation or release for us to keep on file. Some of these licenses can have a limited evaluation period. We will not install trial, demo, or limited-use software.
Software installation, testing and deployment can be a long and complicated process. To help you meet your beginning of the Semester deadline, we encourage you to get your request in using the following timetable. In some cases, we may require more time to test the software before it can be installed on the lab computers.
No, we sometimes experience problems installing software. In the past, we have experienced problems with the following issues:
- The software posed a threat to computer operation or network security.
- The WKU network could not support the software.
- The software could not be deployed successfully in the time available.
If your request met the date suggested on our timetable, your students should be able to use your software at beginning of the next semester. We will work closely with you if we have problems so we can meet your deadline. Please note that software requests received after the designated dates may not be available at the desired time.
All software is assumed to be installed for a period of one year, unless otherwise indicated. All previously requested software will need to be reviewed annually to determine continued support. If you wish to retain currently installed software, you must submit a new form at least once a year. Any software upgrades require a new form to be submitted.
Our staff will verify that a software installation starts properly and performs basic file, edit and print operations properly. In addition to installing your software, we will provide instructions for accessing your software, which you can provide to your students. Our staff at the Student Technology Centers cannot provide training or support for your special software. We strongly advise ethat you provide your own training for the software to your students.
