IT Division - Microsoft Surface Pro Support

Microsoft Surface Pro Support at WKU

WKU Information Technology has added the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 as a supported computing device.

This means WKU IT will provide a purchasing channel, have a standard software image and provide warranty support for the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. WKU IT will treat the Surface Pro 4 as it does supported Dell and Apple computers. The approved Surface Pro 4 bundles includes:

  • Surface Pro 4
  • Type Cover and stylus
  • Ethernet adapter
  • 3-year warranty with accidental damage protection (accessories warranty on type cover, stylus and Ethernet adapter is one year).

Clients using the Surface Pro 4 need to connect to a wired Ethernet connection using the bundled Ethernet adapter on campus once a month to ensure they keep their Active Directory connection active. Failing to do so may result in the inability to login to the device.

Should warranty support be needed, clients need to be aware that any warranty claims will most likely result in shipping the Surface Pro 4 back to Microsoft. There are no removable parts so typically the device is replaced instead of fixed. This results in longer lead times for warranty claims. Should the Surface be replaced a new inventory number will be assigned to the replacement and the remaining original warranty period will apply. We strongly encourage clients who purchase a Surface Pro 4 to regularly backup any important files kept on it. Recovering data from a Surface Pro 4 may be impossible if the machine will no longer boot, recognize the hard drive or have some other hardware error.

The warranty only covers a maximum of 2 claims due to accidental damage or liquid damage.

  • Core i7 Processor/16GB RAM/256GB SSD
  • Ethernet adapter and type cover
  • 3 year extended service plan with accidental damage handling protection

Surface Pro 4 Premium Level Bundle 

  • Core i7 Processor/16GB RAM/512GB SSD
  • Ethernet adapter and type cover
  • 3 year extended service plan with accidental damage handling protection

WKU Desktop Support still supports WKU owned Surface Pro 3's that were previously purchased through the approved channels, were given an inventory number and were imaged by Desktop Support.
