Spending Accounts and Meal Plans

There are five different accounts you can use to make purchases with your WKU ID Card. They are Big Red Dollars, Dining Dollars, Meal Plan Dollars, MPD Flex and Meal Plans. Big Red dollars and Dining Dollars can be purchased through the ID Center or on Topnet, while the others must be purchased on Topnet. MPD Flex will automatically be accessed to your account if you meet the criteria. A brief description for each is listed below.

Big Red Dollars

Big Red Dollars is a very convenient way of making purchases for many different products and services on campus and also at participating merchants off campus. Big Red Dollars can be used at various vending machines (no more digging for change) such as soft drink machines, snack machines, and laundry equipment. It is also accepted at the following: WKU Bookstore, most WKU Restaurant Group facilities, Computer Labs, and the WKU Post Office--plus we have many off-campus businesses that will accept Big Red Dollars--visit http://www.wku/idcenter/bigreddollars.php. for a listing of current participating businesses.

To add Big Red Dollars, log on to Topnet or call the ID Center at 270-745-2417.  A minimum deposit of $20 is required for debit/credit deposits, and a minimum of $10 for cash and check deposits is required. Big Red Dollars will roll over every semester.

Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars is the "food" account here at WKU. It can be used at all of the WKU Restaurant Group facilities on campus. You have the added security of not having to carry cash for your food purchases, plus it’s quicker than having to gather up the correct change for your payment, so you’ll move through the cashier’s line quicker. Another plus--Dining Dollar purchases* will receive an 11% discount on purchases in dining locations and cstores.

To add dining dollars, log on to Topnet or call the ID Center at 270-745-2417. A minimum deposit of $20 is required for debit/credit deposits, and a minimum of $10 for cash and check deposits is required. Dining Dollars will roll over every semester.

All full-time undergraduates* (enrolled in 12 credit hours or more and living on or off campus) have $75 meal plan dollars automatically loaded tot heir WKU ID Card each semester. These funds can be used at any WKU Restaurant Group dining location. The MPD Flex Plan amount of $75 is charged to the University bill/student account automatically when the 12 credit hour criteria is met in the fall and spring semesters. *This excludes all first-year (less than two regular session semesters) students living on-campus under the age of 21 who are required to participate in one of the on-campus meal plans. Students can upgrade to a larger meal plan should they choose to, but all full-time students must maintain at least a minimum $75 MPD Flex. For more information, please visit

Meal Plans

Meal Plans are the most economical way to eat while on campus. These plans provide All access, Block, or Weekly meal options to ensure each student finds the type of plan that works best for them. All Meal Plans come with Meal Plan Dollars to use for additional purchases beyond a 'meal swipe' or Value Meal purchase. For your convenience, all Meal Plans will be billed to your university bill. This allows the student to choose their Meal Plan on their T.O.P. orientation day and not need to make any payments. Meal Plan Members will automatically be re-enrolled for the same plan chosen in the Fall semester for the Spring semester.

Required Meal Plan Policy

All first-year (less than two regular session semesters) students living on campus under the age of 21 are required to participate in one of the on campus meal plans. This requirement is not influenced by changes in class standing that may occur during the student's first year at WKU. If a housing exemption form has been approved and is on file with the university, you will not be required to purchase a Meal Plan. Some exemptions may be granted for verifiable medical conditions that cannot be fulfilled by any of the memberships. Apeals for exemption from this university requirement should be made in writing to the Resident District Manager. For additional information about the on campus meal plans please visit

Meal Plan Dollars

Meal Plan Dollars are a part of your Meal Plan and can be customized to fit your needs. When signing up for your meal plan you can add up to $200 additional Meal Plan Dollars via Topnet to help with all the 'extras' you may want. These Meal Plan Dollars can be used in all on campus dining locations including Einstein Bros. Bagels, Panda Express, and Starbucks. Any additional Meal Plan Dollars added via Topnet will be added to your university bill. When using Meal Plan Dollars, you will save 11% on all applicable purchases and save $1.00 off the door price when used in the Fresh Food Company. Meal Plan Dollars can also be used at Chili's Grill & Bar next to campus.
