Great American Smokeout Event
|Date: Monday, October 30th, 2017||Return|
Did you know that about 1 in 5 US adults still smoke cigarettes?
According to the American Cancer Society, smoking is estimated to cause 32% of all cancer deaths in the US, including 83% of lung cancer deaths in men and 76% of lung cancer deaths in women.
Do you or someone you know want to quit smoking? What a better time to quit than during the Great American Smokeout Event! Every year, on the third Thursday of November, smokers across the nation take part in the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout event. Encourage someone you know to use the date to make a plan to quit, or plan in advance and then quit smoking that day. By quitting, even if it's only for 1 day, smokers will be taking an important step toward a healthier life and reducing their cancer risk.
Come to this event on November 16th from 11:30-12:30pm in DSU Room 2122 to learn how to quit, share how you plan to quit, or support a friend in their mission to quit. Post your participation in the Great American Smokeout event on social media and tag @WKUTopLife for your story to be shared on our pages.
The meeting will be led by Alex Gilpin, Tobacco Program Coordinator and Health Educator with the Barren River Distract Health Department. This is an eligible Top Life Tier II wellness activity. Earn 50 rewards points by self-reporting attendance in the Top Life Wellness portal.
