Academic Blueprint


The Academic Blueprint is a customizable and progressively advanced series of opportunities available throughout your undergraduate experience. The Academic Blueprint equips students with individualized mentoring in order to select the experiences that best fit your future goals.

Moving through these stages allows you to gradually build up mastery of the skills and abilities deemed necessary for success by major employers and leading graduate and professional schools.


Stage 1: Drafting a Plan

Freshmen and Sophomores choose from experiences such as:

  • Honors Freshman Orientation Retreat (H4)
  • Honors general education courses
  • Attending brainstorm workshops on future goals, study abroad plans, nationally competitive scholarships, etc.
  • Personalized advising to help you choose a major or minor
  • Initiating faculty relationships
  • Discovering a passion for your Capstone Experience/Thesis project
  • Joining collegiate honor societies
  • Engaging in the Chinese Language Flagship Program


Stage 2: Building Up

Sophomores and Juniors take advantage of opportunities such as:

  • Honors upper-division and colloquia courses
  • Undergraduate research
  • Applying for nationally competitive scholarships
  • Semester or yearlong study abroad programs
  • Joining a faculty-led research team
  • Working with your advisor for your Capstone Experience/Thesis project
  • Applying for scholarships from collegiate honor societies
  • Professional internships


Stage 3: Producing Results

Juniors and Seniors create their own experiences such as:

  • Honors elective courses
  • Completing a Capstone Experience/Thesis project
  • Presenting research at undergraduate and professional conferences
  • Publishing work in academic journals
  • Planning and implementing a community service project abroad
  • Attending workshops to prepare for graduate and professional school admission
  • Applying for nationally competitive scholarships
  • Applying for graduate and professional schools
  • Applying for a Gap Year experience (such as the Peace Corps, Americorps, studying abroad, etc.)
