Biography

Leah Thompson is an Instructor for HON 251 Citizen and Self course for the Mahurin Honors College. Ms. Thompson joined the Mahurin Honors College in Summer 2019. She has a wealth of experience facilitating campus and community partnerships and building civic agency in students. Mrs. Thompson’s vision is for WKU students who want to impact communities to have the knowledge and skills needed to be effective agents of change.

Ms. Thompson earned a BS in Public Health Education in 2003, as well as a MA in Administrative Dynamics in 2010, both from Western Kentucky University. She is currently enrolled in an Ed.D. in Educational Administration program at WKU.

Ms. Thompson is a member of the WKU Student Research Council, the WKU Diversity, Embracement, and Inclusion Committee for Potter College, the Bowling Green Fairness Coalition, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, Vision Multi-agency Council of South Central Kentucky, and a campus co-coordinator for the American Democracy Project.

Ms. Thompson is personally committed to diversity, inclusion and addressing social inequities through her various roles. She also has a passion for children and health and works with local partners to provide health and fitness opportunities for children and adolescents of South Central Kentucky. As a lifelong citizen of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Ms. Thompson is deeply committed to the students, faculty and staff at WKU, as well as the citizens of South Central Kentucky who make our community such a wonderful place to live, work, and raise families.
