Dr. Ray joined the WKU faculty in the Department of Communication in August 1991. She previously served on the faculty at both the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. Dr. Ray holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from Wayne State University and M.A. in Communication from Eastern Michigan University. She has instructed a broad range of undergraduate and graduate level courses in communication. Her research is in the area of crisis communication and she is the author of Strategic Communication in Crisis Management: Lessons from the Airline Industry. Additionally Dr. Ray has consulted with numerous organizations within the U.S. and abroad.
Prior to her appointment as WKU Glasgow Regional Chancellor in 2011, Dr. Ray served as Department Head of Communication from 2000 to 2008 and Assistant Dean Potter College of Arts & Letters from 2008 to 2011.
