In this public presentation, Cuban-American cultural anthropologist and author Dr. Ruth Behar will describe her interdisciplinary interests on diversity, her passion for sharing and preserving cultural heritage, and her life-long work listening to and passing on the stories of other peoples. She will describe how she uses literature, such as her award-winning book "Lucky Broken Girl," and the arts to share her life experiences.

The presentation is followed by the opening reception for the gallery exhibit "Building Bridges through the Arts: I Spy Art Traveling Edition" in the FAC Main Gallery, accompanied by live Cuban music.

On Thursday, February 21 there will be an evening poetry reading by Sarah McCartt-Jackson, award-winning poet and WKU Folk Studies alumnus. Sarah is a native of eastern Kentucky and much of her poetry draws on the folklore of that region. Here is a review of her recent book, and an interview with her:
