Riverview at Hobson Grove
I interned at the Riverview at Hobson Grove House Museum, which focuses on Victorian Kentucky and the Hobson family who built and lived in the house. Through the summer, I worked with Eileen Starr, Assistant to the Director, to finish the physical inventory of the house. I documented on cards standard information such as measurements, condition, restoration planning, time period, manufacturer, source, etc. Each object and all condition issues were also photographed. Toward the end of the summer, I began entering this information into PastPerfect.
I also got to work with local expert resources from whom I learned a great deal about Victorian lamps, books, and furnishings, and how to properly care for them. To that end, we made some adjustments such as placement of items in the house, and we created a rotation schedule for the objects and textiles on display. Eileen and I also worked together to develop ways to control the indoor environment of the house – not an easy task with no insulation and doors you can see daylight through!
Being so involved with the day-to-day care of such a great collection has been such an awesome and fun experience that will prove to be valuable moving forward.
