Politics of Middle East and North Africa (MENA)
Islam/Politics and Basic Moroccan Arabic


This program explores Moroccan culture, society, and politics through interactive learning and experiences with local student, educators, and public officials.

 Topics: Middle East and North African geography, modern history and politics—the Arab spring, Islam and politics, Islamic art and culture, the effects of globalization, migration patterns and much more…  Daily Arabic lessons with a former Fulbrighter Arabic instructor and regular practice with Moroccan students of English on joint excursions. Surf class in one of the world’s top surf and windsurf locations; a camel trek and overnight in the Sahara with Sahrawi and Berber nomads; visit the Arab world’s largest square—the Jmma el-Fnaa; Hassan II Mosque; beaches on the Mediterranean Sea & Atlantic Ocean & the Kotoubia.
