Sexual Health in the United Kingdom
The United States (US) has long had some of the highest rates of teen pregnancy, birth,
and sexual risk-taking among youth in the developed world. In contrast, the United
Kingdom (UK) has much lower rates than the US. The primary purpose of this study abroad
class is to explore the sexual health culture, policies, and practices in the UK and
how they differ from those in the US.
During a three-week stay in London, students will experience sexual health programs, policies, and services from a “sex positive” perspective by visiting a variety of agencies and organizations targeted with reproductive health for teens and young adults. Included in these class activities are lectures/presentations from leading UK sexual health experts and site visits to specific agencies/organizations.
