Dr. Jerod Ra’Del Hollyfield earned his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University and his Master’s in English and B.S. in Journalism and Electronic Media from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. His research led him to pursue his current book project, “Adapting Empires: The Victorian Novel and the Postcolonial Filmmaker in Hollywood,” which combines his interests in literature, film, and postcolonial theory.  Previously, Dr. Hollyfield taught English and digital media at LSU and UT. His work has been published in Settler Colonial Studies, Atlantikos, CineAction, Film International, and several edited collections, including World Cinema and the Visual Arts (2012) and Postcolonial Film: History, Empire, Resistance (2014). 

Dr. Hollyfield is also an award-winning filmmaker whose work has played at numerous international and Oscar-qualifying film festivals.  His most recent film, "Goodfriends," was endorsed by several national disability advocacy groups and is currently available to rent or own through He is the creator of The Assisted Stories Project, a collection of video essays that aims to preserve and promote the narratives of the American South's elder population, which is available through WKU English’s website.
