Campus Recreation & Wellness COVID-19 Operations Plan
The Raymond B. Preston Health and Activities Center is open to its patrons and guests.
Below you will find updated information on our facilities, programs, and services during this time.
Thank you for your support and understanding of the university plan to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 as best to protect its students, faculty, staff and communities.
Preston Center access for children 14 and under will be suspended until further notice.
All members and guests will be required to wear a protective mask as followed:
- Arrival – No Mask! No Entry!
Effective at 5 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2020 all patrons, guests, and staff will be required to wear their face mask coverings at all times while in the Preston Center.
This includes while exercising or during any physical activity.
The policy of wearing a face mask covering while not exercising or involved in a physical activity has not changed.
Basically from the time a person walks into the Preston Center until the time they leave they must have a face mask covering on.
The face mask covering must be worn properly at all times.
The only exception to this policy is if someone is swimming but they must have a mask on up to the time they enter the pool and immediately after exiting the pool.
This is a state and university mandate
- Departure – Before leaving the Preston Center we encourage all members and guests to wash their hands or utilize the sanitizing stations located throughout the facility.
All members and guests must verify that they do not have any of the 9 conditions listed on the COVID-19 Daily Health Checklist and have not traveled to any states with a positivity rate of 15% or greater (find that list on https://govstatus.egov.com/kycovid19 ). It is imperative that if any member or guest has any doubt about their condition they should not put others in harm’s way by coming to the Preston Center.

- No ID! No Entry!
- One time complimentary passes to members have been suspended through the Month of June due to facility capacity limitations.

We will closely monitor the pool usage and determine if a reservation system is necessary.
Why are the showers not available for patrons currently?
Our showers are closed due to the state guidelines whereas we would be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the showers after each usage. We currently do not have the student workforce or capabilities to accomplish this guidelines after each usage.
Why do Part-Time Students have to pay a $35 membership fee and Full-Time Students do not?
Full-Time Students membership to the Preston Center is included in their tuition whereas Part-Time Students are not.
Why are the day lockers no longer available to the members of the Preston Center?
Our day lockers are closed due to the state guidelines whereas we would be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the lockers after each usage. We currently do not have the student workforce or capabilities to accomplish this guideline after each usage. Lockers in the Locker Rooms are available for semester and annual rental. In the past members were not allowed to bring in backpacks, etc. into the fitness center will this policy not be in effect since the day lockers are no longer available to the members of the Preston Center?
Our staff is finalizing plans in addressing the many issues that will certainly arise due to the guidelines that we must follow due to COVID-19.
If you have not already, I might suggest considering renting a locker in the locker rooms for the safe protection of your belongings.
Since the pool and group exercise classes have a smaller capacity limit, who can we call to find out if there are openings available?
You may call the Preston Center Front Desk at 270-745-5217 during the hours of operation Sunday - Saturday.
Currently the pool usage are on a first come first serve basis. Beginning August 24, our group fitness schedule will move to on-line registration. Please click the link to register for our group fitness classes. https://www.wku.edu/crw/healthfitnesslab/groupx/
Can I bring my gym bag with me, even though you are not checking out day use lockers?
There is currently no good safe haven to place your gym bag should you bring it to the facility. We highly recommend you rent out a locker in the locker room.
Is spotting allowed in the Fitness Center Areas?
Due to COVID19, our CRW staff will not be spotting patrons. We will allow patrons who have come into the facility together to spot one another, but the spotter must wear a mask during the spot.
