Program Themes

WKU Challenge Course Staff will work with your group to customize a program, but below are some common program themes to get you started. Please note that activities included in each themed program are determined by program time frames. (ex. a 2 hour Teambuilding 101 program cannot include the high ropes course)

Break the Ice, Start the Fire
If your group is newly forming or reforming, this program gives everyone a chance to learn the basics like names and start to explore the different leadership styles on your team. Facilitators will plan a variety of name games, icebreaker activities, and light teambuilding. Longer programs at the WKU Challenge Course can include use of our low ropes course elements.

Teambuilding 101
This program focuses on the "basics" of an effective group: communication, teamwork, and trust. It will begin with activities that introduce the group to each other and their facilitators and then move into activities that center on problem solving. These activities can gradually increase in difficulty and will include times for reflection on the themes the group chooses to focus on. Longer programs at the WKU Challenge Course can include use of our low ropes course elements.

Work Hard, Play Harder

This program is for the group that needs to bond, but let loose a bit. It incorporates group games and light problem solving in a low stress team experience. Programs on site at the WKU Challenge Course can include our high ropes course, climbing wall, Vertical Play Pen and/or Leap of Faith/Power Pole.

Communication Build Up
Tired of communication break downs within your group? This program focuses on the elements of what can cause this: the same speaker, too many speakers, not enough speakers and more. It's a chance to help your group adjust their volume and move from talking "at" each other to talking "to" each other. Programs on site at the WKU Challenge Course can include our high ropes course, climbing wall, Vertical Play Pen and/or Leap of Faith/Power Pole.

Policies

Age Requirement

We require all participants to be at least twelve years old. Any participants under eighteen years old will need to have a parent or guardian sign their waivers and release forms.

Reservation Policy

On the group reservation form, a participant count is required so that the Challenge Course can arrange for an appropriate number of staff members. A finalized participant count will be required two weeks from the scheduled program day. If on the day of the program fewer participants than anticipated arrive, then the group will be charged the per person rate with a minimum of 90% of their reservation quote. If more participants arrive than anticipated then the group will be charged the per person rate for each additional participant.

Cancellation Policy

At the time of reservation, 30% of your group total will be required as a non-refundable deposit to secure your program on the calendar. In the event that a program is cancelled due to weather or unforeseen Challenge Course maintenance, the deposit will be fully returned.

Inclement Weather Policy

Examples of weather conditions that could lead to the cancellation of a program include, but are not limited to: thunder and lightning, strong winds, heavy rain, and extreme temperatures. It is the responsibility of the Challenge Course staff to determine if the conditions are safe for a program. In the event of unsafe conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the program. If a program cannot be rescheduled then the group will receive a full refund. A program that has run for 75% of its scheduled time prior to cancellation will be considered complete, and attempts will not be made to reschedule
