He joined the faculty at WKU in the Fall of 2009.</p>

    [Section_Value3] => <p>Dr. Forbes is a Professor of Marketing and directs the nationally recognized sales program at WKU.&nbsp; He publishes research primarily in the area of sales and services.&nbsp; His research has appeared in journals to include the <em>Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science</em>, the <em>Journal of Personal Selling &amp; Sales Management</em>, and the <em>Journal of Services Marketing</em>.&nbsp; He is an active member of the University Sales Center Alliance and former editorial review board member of the <em>Journal of Personal Selling &amp; Sales Management</em>.&nbsp; He is a &ldquo;two time&rdquo; teaching award winner, a college public service award winner, and a recipient of the WKU College Vitale Award for innovation and leadership.</p>

His current research focuses on the customer-orientation of salespeople, the use of empowerment in a selling environment, the socialization process of adolescents, and the roles that entertainers and athletes play in advertising. His past business experience includes positions with leading global organizations in both financial services (Merrill Lynch) and telecommunications (United States Cellular/Bell South).</p>

    [Section_Value3] => <p>Professor Shannon specializes in personal selling/sales management, marketing ethics, and retailing. He has ten years of business experience in sales and retail management. Professor Shannon is a member of numerous national, regional and local professional organizations, targeted towards both practitioners and educators, has served as an officer in a professional chapter of the American Marketing Association, and is a Past President of the Bowling Green Professional Marketing Association. Dr. Shannon also serves on the Business Advisory Council of Barren County High School.&nbsp; He is a member of Pi Sigma Epsilon (international sales and marketing fraternity), Beta Gamma Sigma (international business honor society), and Alpha Mu Alpha (international marketing honor society).&nbsp; Dr. Shannon served as Chair of the Department of Marketing for 17 years.</p>
<p>Dr. Shannon&rsquo;s current teaching interests include Personal Selling, Retail Management and Strategy, and Marketing Ethics.&nbsp; He has also taught courses on Basic Marketing, Sales Management, New Product Development, Market Research, Integrated Marketing Communication, Sports Marketing, and Marketing Strategy.&nbsp; Professor Shannon has also taught International Marketing in study abroad classes in Canada and Australia.</p>
<p>Dr. Shannon&rsquo;s current research focuses on curricular issues; sales force motivation, compensation, and training; business/marketing ethics and social responsibility; frequency marketing programs; and internationalization in sports marketing. He has presented seminars on marketing education to students, parents, and educators. He has also conducted workshops and training sessions for educators and practitioners on relationship marketing, sales, and customer service, the personal selling process, and retail store operations and management.&nbsp; His research has appeared in the <em>Journal of Business Ethics</em>, <em>Journal of Services Marketing</em>, <em>Sport Marketing Quarterly</em>, <em>Journal of Teaching in International Business</em>, <em>Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice</em>, <em>Marketing Education Review</em>, and the <em>Journal of Customer Service in Management and Marketing</em>, as well as numerous regional, national, and international conference proceedings. Dr. Shannon serves on the Editorial Review Board for the <em>Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice</em> and has served as a reviewer for numerous journals, including the <em>Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management</em>, numerous regional and national conferences and textbooks on Basic Marketing Concepts, Personal Selling, and Retail Management.</p>
