Ray was born in Middletown, Ohio. He moved to Bowling Green in 1979 when he ended his service with the United States Army. He went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, attended Western KY University, and joined the Army Reserve upon his return.
In 1999 he was selected as the 8th Command Sergeant Major of the Army Reserve, took a leave of absence from the Post Office, and moved to Washington, DC. He was in the Pentagon on 11 September, 2001 and assisted in the rescue efforts that day. He retired in February 2002. His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal. His career with the U.S. Postal Service culminated with service as the 35th Postmaster of Bowling Green. He retired in April 2008.
His civilian education includes: An Associate’s Degree and Bachelors Degree from Western Kentucky University. He also has his Professional Human Resources certification (PHR). Ray has taught SHRM courses for WKU since 2010.
Ray has served on a Congressional and Bowling Green/Warren County Veterans Affairs board, Trustee for VFW Post 1298, President of the Olde Stone Community Association and is currently on the Board of Directors for Independence Bank in Warren County and is an Army Reserve Ambassador.
Ray and his wife Debbie have a blended family with 4 children and grandchildren.
