Motivational Interviewing with Addictions

This training will introduce participants to motivational interviewing as a way to engage and assist people in thinking through change. It will primarily focus on the spirit of motivational interviewing as a foundation for having a collaborative conversation with others.

WKU Students: Free

  • Participants will gain an understanding of tenets and skills associated with motivational interviewing

  • Participants will learn to apply the tenets and basic skills of motivational interviewing in addictions/clinical setting

Karen Garrity, MSEd, LPCC, LCADC

During her 22-year career in the mental health field she has primarily worked in the specialty areas of addiction and trauma. She is the clinical director of Addiction Services for LifeSkills overseeing alcohol and drug services in a ten-county area.
