Current research finds that, all things being equal, if college graduates seeking
career positions have taken an internship with that company or a simular one, they
are the ones offered the jobs (National Association of Colleges and Employers, Job Outlook 2018, https://www.naceweb.org/talent-acquisition/candidate-selection/what-employers-seek-on-a-resume/). The Department of Communication is committed to enhancing the employability of
its graduates through internships.
Each internship course engages students in significant professional experience, appropriate
to their major. Interns typically work 200 or more hours at their internship sites.
Typically, students find their own internships. Please consult with your major professors
or Dr. Helen Sterk if you need ideas for potential internship sites.
Application Process: Students submit the application form online and provide Dr. Sterk with their WKU unofficial
transcript from TopNet. Students have their supervisors submit the learning contract.
Beofre the term in which the internship is completed, please review the plan with
Dr. Sterk, who releases students for registration.
