Bowling Green, KY, August 28 - The Fall 2018 Imagewest student staff spent the week before the start of the semester working with the Historic Railpark and Train Museum to revamp the outdated promotional material. The staff took on tasks dividing the promotion of events to create a creative campaign for the Railpark at no cost. This project was the first real business experience for many at Imagewest and a first step in finding a job after graduation.
“Many of our interns have never had the chance to work with real clients,” said Kara Williams Glenn, manager of Imagewest, “Being able to help a non-profit and give our staff real world experience is a valuable opportunity.”
Working with the Historic Railpark and Train Museum gave the Imagewest staff a taste of real business experience that will aid in their job search post-graduation. In one week, the staff created flyers, letters and other materials without the aid of professors. All content created by Imagewest is made by students.
“It was really great getting to work with a team,” said Courtney McDonald, one of the Multimedia Creatives on Imagewest’s staff. “Getting to see your work used in outside of school is much different then turning in a project for class. It feels like I actually made something that makes a difference in the community.” This is McDonald’s first year at Imagewest and like many of the staff their first time applying their skills to the real world.
Imagewest is made up of students with different majors that are all members of the WKU Potter College of Arts and Letters. Imagewest gives the students a chance to mix with people in the other majors and combine their skills to produce a finished product that will be used in the local community.
WKU Imagewest is made up of students in varying majors that are all members of the Potter College of Arts and Letters. Imagewest takes on students each semester that are pursuing a degree in; strategic marketing, broadcasting, graphic designer, advertising, journalism and public relations. The staff takes on many clients from local businesses in the Bowling Green area throughout the year. Students are able to get an Ad and Public Relations agency feel before they even graduate from WKU.
The Railpark and Train Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and renovation of the L&N train station. They endeavor to create an interaction museum of Smithsonian quality.
