Western Kentucky University has an institutional membership to some excellent on-demand faculty professional development resources offered by Magna Publications. You may access these resources anytime from anywhere free of charge. Our institutional membership covers two of Magna’s products. These products overlap in content, but their structure is different. To access these resources, please contact the CITL ( to obtain instructions for creating a Magna Account and to acquire WKU’s Group Authorization Code. With this information, you can create a Magna Account using your WKU email address and password you select.

Mentor-Commons (short 20-minute videos and lessons)

  • The Mentor Commons is an on-demand, online, digital library containing more than 100 of Magna Publications’ 20 Minute Mentor programs. These 20-minute programs provide quick, targeted professional development training on a variety of topics related to face-to-face teaching, online teaching, blended learning and flipped classrooms, and academic administration.  Each video has an accompanying transcript, handouts, supplemental materials, and discussion questions.  Topics include:
    • Grading and feedback
    • Student engagement
    • Course design
    • Faculty development
    • Teaching with technology
    • Blended learning
    • Classroom management
    • Specific student populations
    • Teaching strategies
    • Flipped courses

CITL Sponsored Seminars/Webinars

Periodically, the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning offers standalone seminars and webinars focused on a variety of topics relating to teaching and pedagogy and faculty professional development more broadly.  When possible, we record these seminars and webinars and make these links available here on our website.  Below you will find a listing of seminars and webinars recorded by the CITL over the past two years, and you are welcome to view them at your leisure.
