Chinese Flagship Program Faculty and Staff - Brian Anderson

Brian Anderson

Brian Anderson

Chinese Language Immersion House Community Assistant

Why did you choose to participate in the Chinese Language Flagship Program at WKU?

When I heard about the Flagship I just knew it would be a perfect fit. My senior year of high school I had the chance to talk with students in the Flagship about the cool projects they were working on and the study abroad programs they were able to participate in and I was sold.

What is your favorite part about living in the Chinese Language Immersion House?

I love constantly getting to practice some of the more informal parts of the Chinese language. Dishwasher, wash cloth, microwave, etc. aren’t often words that come up in textbooks, but are still very necessary.

How were your language skills impacted by participating in the Critical Language Scholarship over the summer?

I came back with a greater appreciate for the culture that shaped the language. It’s much easier to study characters when you have a better frame of reference for what the character symbolizes.

What is your favorite Chinese Flagship event/program so far?

As a member of #TeamHotPot I was a big fan of the Hot Hangout the Chinese Flagship hosted last year, and I’m looking forward to doing something similar again soon!
