The Vanderbilt Experience Student Nurse Internship Program, also known as VESNIP was successfully completed by 10 WKU nursing students this 2018 summer term with WKU faculty Dr. Audrey Cornell and Vanderbilt staff. WKU is one of only five schools invited to participate in the VESNIP opportunity. The students received invaluable experiences with clinical placements in tracks that include; Women’s Health, Critical Care, Acute Care, Pediatrics, Psychiatric, and Perioperative.
During the Internship the Vanderbilt nursing staff has the opportunity to nominate one student from each track to receive the Vanderbilt Credo award. Dr. Audrey Cornell, Clinical Associate Professor stated, “The student receiving the Credo award is a student that has made the patient the highest priority by communicating effectively with them and their families and was committed to being a team player with the Vanderbilt healthcare staff.”
All 10 WKU nursing student participants represented WKU SON with pride and professionalism and we are proud to announce that a CHHS School of Nursing VESNIP participant was presented with the Vanderbilt Credo Award: Madeline Fullbright from the Pediatric Track.
In addition, WKU student, Allison Mcclain, completed the Internship with Honors credit with a paper and presentation titled “Use of Polyethylene Wraps for NICU Patients.”
We look forward to Summer 2019!
