Institute for Rural Health Receives $50,000 Grant

The Institute for Rural Health (IRH) in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) received a $50,000 grant from the Good Samaritan Foundation Inc., a ministry of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
The funds will be used for the IRH’s medical and dental outreach in the Rural Kentucky Project. IRH Director Matt Hunt, stated, “The grant funds will be used to purchase medical and dental supplies for the delivery of health care services and health promotion in underserved areas within the WKU service area.” Hunt also added that, “Expanding care for vulnerable populations is essential to continue to provide students in the College of Health and Human Serviceswith the best educational experience and practical application of knowledge acquired in the classroom.”
"We are delighted to be in partnership with the Good Samaritan Foundation, Inc.," Dr. Neale Chumbler, Dean of CHHS stated. "Our Institute of Rural Health is a pivotal service to the improvement and sustainability of the health of our rural communities. We could not service the need without this partnership."
