Children staying at the Barren River Area Safe Space (BRASS), the domestic violence shelter in Bowling Green, have brand new bikes to enjoy this spring thanks to a service project completed by the Rural Health Scholars at WKU.
Rural Health Scholars is a summer program for pre-health professional students hosted by the South Central KY Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in the College of Health and Human Services at WKU. As part of the program, students completed a $100 Solution™ service project. For their service project, Cyrus Sadrinia, Isaac Stevens, Brittney Lyne, Holly Nauert, and Tiffany Taylor partnered with Howard’s Cycling & Fitness, LLP to repair the kids’ bikes at BRASS. They also made a bike maintenance video for the BRASS staff.
Howard’s donated their time and expertise to repair BRASS’s bikes and surprised the group with three brand new bikes. Thanks to Howard’s, children at BRASS have seven working bikes to ride on.
