WKU’s Institute for Rural Health (IRH) has received a $50,000 award from the Good Samaritan Foundation Inc., a ministry of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
“The Good Samaritan Foundation Inc. award will be used to purchase medical and dental supplies for the delivery of health care services in underserved areas within the WKU service area. The funds will also be used to purchase equipment to replace ever-changing and medical and dental equipment, which will improve service delivery and add to the educational experiences of WKU students,” IRH Director Matt Hunt said. “Expanding our outreach and updating equipment is essential to continue to provide students in the College of Health and Human Services with the best educational experience and practical application.”
“Dental professionals are known for their love of new technologies. This award will allow the IRH to purchase the latest equipment and materials, giving Dental Hygiene and Nursing students the opportunity to practice using innovations in their field that they may not otherwise encounter until after they graduate,” said Dr. Daniel Carter, the IRH Dental Director.
