A Tradition of Generosity
The College Heights Foundation Scholarship Golf Classic is a wonderful tradition dating back to 1974. Like all great events, the Classic is about more than just having a fun time, although fun is certainly included.
The College Heights Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship Fund was initiated by a sponsoring committee made up of Emmons O. Pearson Jr., Robert M. Pearce, Harold B. McGuffey, and Herbert J. Smith. These four founders developed the idea of having a two-day golf tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club, in which the proceeds would benefit a permanent scholarship fund for needy, deserving students at Western Kentucky University.
That sponsoring committee created an event to combine the joy of golf and of giving, but little did they know that they had begun a tradition of generosity. Through the continued support of donors and participants, the Golf Classic Scholarship Fund has grown greatly and now helps numerous students each year.
Remaining with tradition, the Classic takes place over two days, usually a Friday and a Saturday, and is still held at the Bowling Green Country Club. Each day has a different format. The first day has a scramble format that begins with a shotgun start. Four person teams can enter, or we will pair you with other individuals based on handicaps. The second day has the traditional format of playing your own ball, and the field will be flighted based on handicaps. The second day also has a shotgun start, but usually begins earlier than the first day. All golfers will receive goody bags and awards will be given to various teams on the first day and to individual golfers on the second.
All registration fees cover both days of the tournament and go into the Classic's Fund. Donors can also sponsor a hole on the course or a WKU student to play in the tournament.
Please join us for the May 19-20, 2017 tournament by filling out and sending in the 2017 registration brochure on the right. We'd love for you to be a part of this great tradition!
