Official Rules, Guidelines, and Submission Requirements
What Is It?The WKU Business Plan Competition is held by the Gordon Ford College of Business Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Students will present business plans in front of a panel of judges, and from this competition, winning student teams become WKU Business Plan Finalists. Prizes will be awarded to each of the WKU Business Plan Finalist teams. In addition, WKU Business Plan Finalist teams will be eligible to compete (in early spring) to represent WKU in subsequent competitions (e.g., the national e-Fest Competition) as the WKU Competition Team. Winners of subsequent competitions have the potential to earn additional prizes from these subsequent competitions.
Can I Participate? Sure! If you are currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in WKU Fall 2019 or the mmediate preceding summer term. The competition is for student-created, student-managed, and student owned business "ventures" (proposed businesses). Students must: have played a major role in conceiving the propsed venture, have key management roles in the proposed venture, or owned siginificant equity in the propsed venture.
What Is Involved?Your business plan submission which consists of: an Entry Form (download here), 2-Page Executive Summary (saved as a PDF), and a 2-Minute Video Pitch, is due via email to email@example.com by 11:59 p.m. Finally be ready to deliver the presentation of your plan and answer a few questions from the judges!
How Will it Work? Each student or student team wil have the opportunity to present their business plan in front of the Business Plan judges. You will be presenting to 3-5 people for 10 minutes, followed by a few minutes of questions. The judges will decide WKU Business Plan Finalists, and those students or student teams will have the opportunity to serve as the WKU Competition Team in subsequent student entrepreneurial competitions.
Is Anything Off Limits? All concepts must be legal in the USA and Kentucky. Vice industry concepts, such as alcohol (e.g., production, distribution), drugs, pornography, tobacco, gambling, etc., are prohibited.
