WKU BIOLOGY STUDENT PRESENTS RESEARCH AT NATIONAL MICROBIOLOGY MEETING

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Biology student Millicent Ronkainen of Hodgenville recently presented her research at the annual meeting of the American Society for Microbiology.
Ronkainen presented a poster entitled “Identification and Characterization of an Escherichia coli Bacteriophage Mutant Capable of Growing on a Nonpermissive Host.”
Ronkainen, a member of the Honors College, a FUSE grant recipient and an Honors Development Grant (HDG) recipient is completing her Honors thesis research in Dr. Rodney King’s laboratory at WKU.
The 2017 ASM Microbe meeting was held June 1-5 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Convention Center in New Orleans, LA. The American Society for Microbiology is the largest single life science society, composed of over 50,000 scientists and health professionals. ASM's mission is to promote and advance the microbial sciences.
Dr. King acknowledges partial support for this project from an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Health Grant 5P20GM103436.
