Description:

COMSOL and IEEE Spectrum will give a free webinar on "Transformer and Inductor Modeling with
COMSOL Multiphysics." Details and registration are available below.

Live Presentation - Thursday, February 7th, 2013, 2:00pm ET

The Transformer plays a key role in the electrical grid as it allows for electrical power to be transmitted over long distances at high
voltage and low current thereby minimizing transmission loss. Electrical power typically passes through several transformer stages
before reaching the consumer. Thus, the potential value of even minor improvements in transformer reliability and performance is huge. Deploying green energy sources like photovoltaic systems, wind power and wave power also poses new challenges to transformer technology. Transformer design and, more generally inductor design, are by nature true multiphysics problems as electrical and thermal effects are important and tightly coupled.

This webinar will explore various approaches to transformer and inductor modeling and features a detailed example where we show,
step by step, how to model a transformer with COMSOL Multiphysics.
