Kyla Scanlon was selected as a finalist on the 2018 Data Analytics Completion (https://www.teradatauniversitynetwork.com/Community/Student-Competitions/2018/2018-TUN-Challenge-Finalists) at the 2018 Teradata Analytics Universe Conference which took place in Las Vegas, NV, from October 14-18, 2018. She was awarded the TUN Student Scholarship ($2395 value, which covered the conference registration fee, conference meals, and gala events.)
She competed against ten teams of students from prestigious universities such as Washington University St. Louis, University of Alabama, Cal-State Fullerton, and Loyola University Chicago.
Kyla was the only team of one student, with several teams of 4-5 in the competition and one team of 6. The majority of the teams were also composed of Masters students. This made for an interesting time for Kyla, as she often had to rush from presentation to presentation, acting as a team of 4 students!
What Kyla had to say about the experience:
“I had an incredible time at Teradata Analytics Universe. It was so cool to be among some of the best minds in data, and see how sharp some of the ideas were. I brought back several ideas for my own research, and am still in contact with many of the friends that I made.
I've never traveled alone before to such a big city, so that was also an awesome learning opportunity. Being able to experience Data Analytics in Las Vegas is probably one of the most amazing things that you can do, no matter your field. I'm excited for the future of my own research, but being able to help others with their own ideas through the connections that I've made has been fantastic.
I am extremely grateful for the funding provided to allow me to go on this trip. Seeing the world is one of the most important things to do when you're an undergrad, and the fact that GFCB allowed me to do just that is something I will forever be thankful for. It opened my eyes to how much is truly out there, and I am excited to explore it all. I have had an endless opportunity through the College of Business, and the support provided to me throughout all my endeavors is something I could never express enough thanks for.”
