What did you study in college?
As an undergraduate student, I had many different interests which lead to me change majors a few times. I graduated with an Interdisciplinary Studies degree with a concentration in health. I graduated and started a family then decided to come back to school. I earned my Master's degree in December 2021 from the Student Affairs in Higher Education program at WKU. That degree allowed me to work as a graduate assistant in the Advising and Career Development Center in the Best Expectations program, before joining the Office of Admissions staff.
Advice for new Hilltoppers?
I look back and wish I would have been more involved on campus. Get involved, meet new people, try new things. Do it all. This time will fly by. Focus on your education but have a good time while doing it. Making connections is so important! You never know who you might meet. That person might hire you one day! I also want to add that it is okay to not know what you want to do. It might take a while and that is okay. Remember that there is no timeline to this. Do it on your own time. Keep looking until you find what is right for you.
What does the WKU experience mean to you?
To me the WKU experience has meant being part of a huge family. There isn’t one place I have been in that hasn’t felt like home. Everyone feels so connected and I think that is important when you’re furthering your education. WKU is a huge support system and I love that. Everyone here is willing to help, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
My favorite WKU tradition and/or memory is:
During my time as an undergraduate student, I struggled with some personal things and to find something I was passionate about. My advisor at the time was my support system. She worked with me numerous times and we found my solution. If it wasn’t for her, I may not have graduated. It was nice to walk across that stage (at 40 weeks pregnant!) and finally earn my degree!
What is your favorite spot on WKU's campus?
My favorite spot-on campus is DSU or Downing Student Union. I enjoy seeing all the students interacting with each other whether just hanging out or studying. I love that it is a place that anyone can come regardless of who they are. I feel like it is the heart of WKU.
