What did you study in college?
I graduated with a degree in Public Relations with minors in Marketing and Digital Advertising in 2015. I'm studying Biology now for fun!
Advice for new Hilltoppers?
Keep an open mind! Remember that college is an experience- take in as much as you can and never be afraid to try new things. If you’re undecided on a major, take advantage of your Colonnade options to explore as many topics as you can. Go to every club meeting you can make, play intramural sports if that’s your thing, study abroad early and often, participate in undergrad research, and leave with no regrets.
The number one thing I encourage future students to check out:
ORAC! The Outdoor Recreation Adventure Center is such a cool resource on campus for students- you can rent all kinds of equipment from them, and they sponsor a ton of trips year-round. You can go dog sledding in the winter, surfing over spring break, ice climbing, canoeing, sky diving, spelunking, and tons of other adventures. They also offer classes on first aid, layering for the cold, etc. so you’re better prepared to go on your own trips.
My favorite WKU tradition and/or memory is:
Study abroad! I chose to go to Harlaxton in 2013 and it was my favorite memory at WKU. Even if you’ve traveled abroad before, studying abroad is a totally different experience. We went to London the first weekend we arrived (and it was amazing!), but the mid-semester trip to London after we’d covered British History was so much more eye-opening. Any major can study abroad, and for any amount of time! There are two week trips, year-long trips, winter trips, summer trips- and there are programs available on every continent (except Antarctica!). As soon as you get the chance, study abroad.
