Florence Schneider Hall

Florence Schneider Hall

Florence Schneider Hall is home to The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky.  Originally built in 1929, The Gatton Academy officially called this beautiful building home in 2007.

Our building offers ample common spaces for students to study and socialize in addition to housing the offices of The Gatton Academy
staff and the staff of The Center for Gifted Studies.  From the 4th floor Den, the computer lab, and the multi-purpose Great Hall, our building was designed with the needs of our students in mind.

Security is very important at The Gatton Academy.  Our building is on electronic access control and access is only granted by our in-house card administrator.  There are multiple layers of security to access student wings and rooms, whether it be from electronic access to the wings and cameras on each floor, to full-time Residential Counselors who live on the floor with the students.

Each student admitted to The Gatton Academy will have a roommate.  Each room in Florence Schneider Hall is suite-style, which means that two students (one room) will share a bathroom with an additional room.  Each room does have it's own sink.

Each room has two beds and bed hardware, two bed ladders, two dressers, two wardrobes (closets), two desks, and two chairs. Each window in the room has mini blinds.  Rooms are approximate 12’ x 15’.  If you plan on bringing a rug, a 5’ x 7’ is typically best.  The default room layout is both beds lofted with desk and dresser underneath.  Students do have some flexibility in adjusting their furniture but rooms must be returned to the default at the end of the year.  All furniture that is in the room must stay in the room.

Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and bathrooms.  In the first five weeks of the semester, each student will work through a roommate contract with their roommate that the wing’s residential counselor will keep on file.  The contract will be referred to throughout the year.

More information about rooms and room assignments is provided in the student handbook.
