Task 3: During Reading
1. While you are reading The Polar Express think about the similes which are used in the story. There are two similes in The Polar Express:
"The candies had nougat centers as white as snow."
"We drank hot cocoa as thick and rich as melted chocolate."
2. Remember: A simile is a figure of speech linking one thing to another by the use of the word 'like' or 'as'.
3. Ready? Each materials manager should print off the Similes Worksheet for each member of the group.
4. Use this task to create more similes from the theme of The Polar Express.
