[An amended version of a message to the A16 listserve by Neil Watkinis dated 17 May 2000]
As you will see below there are a lot of campaigns, protests, and other efforts that need people like you to keep the pressure on the unaccountable institutions and corporations that rule the global economy. Please join many of these lists, depending on your interest area. Many of the lists are very low volume, so you will not necesarily be inundated with e-mail by joining them. Thanks to everyone who submitted information about listserves people may join.
Happy list shopping and onward!

agendas, and support. It
would be wonderful to have international participation for this. The list

are discussing a European wide mobilization to Prague and also decentralized action. The

"Focus on the Corporation," co-authored by Russell Mokhiber, editor of Corporate Crime
Reporter, and Robert Weissman, editor of Multinational
Monitor magazine. Focus on the Corporation scrutinizes the multinational
corporation the most powerful institution of our time. Once a week, it reports and comments
critically on corporate actions, plans, abuses and trends. Written with a sharp edge and occasional
irreverence, Focus on the Corporation covers the double standards which excuse corporations for
behavior (e.g., causing injury, accepting welfare) widely considered criminal or shameful when done
by individuals; Globalization and corporate power; Trends in corporate economic blackmail,
political influence and workplace organization; Industry-wide efforts to escape regulation,
silence critics, employ new technologies or consolidate business among a few companies; Specific,
extreme examples of corporate abuses: destruction of communities, trampling of democracy,
poisoning of air and water; and the corporatization of our culture.

Tobin tax listserve
This listserve sends out only one update a month, and provides you with
information about one of
the positive solutions which many groups are endorsing.... the Tobin Tax
.... Proposals for Tobin-
style taxes are economically feasible and respectable. The main hurdle is
political will. But now
the parliaments and congresses of the world are beginning to act, and
grassroots movements in
Europe have grown quite large, quite rapidly. With the introduction of the
DeFazio resolution in
the US Congress, things are starting to move in the US as well. See our
website, bibliographies,
links at http://www.tobintax.org for more information as well. Hope you
will join our 1200

GATS list serve
Join the GATS list serve if you want to oppose the WTO's promotion of
corporate profiting from human services. In Seattle, the WTO was stopped from proceeding with a
Millennium Round of new negotiations, but unfortunately they are going forward with
negotiations on the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) to "liberalize" services. This
threatens further acceleration of privatization of human services. Of particular concern is
health care, education, prisons, and water distribution. The GATS list serve provides updates on
the negotiations, basic information, and discussion of strategies, including those being developed
internationally. Separate lists are being created in each of the four areas of special
concern. Please indicate which you lists you want to join.: General, Water, Education, Prisons, or Health.
Note: Presently these lists are being managed by Ruth Caplan with the
Alliance for Democracy. To join, send an e-mail to rcaplan@igc.org

have yet to be

have proven capable of
pulling together a spirited, peaceful protest of over a thousand within a

other activists in the

5) Other Related Lists
** The listserve I moderate is concerned with the radical evolution of
culture and economy toward
just and sustainable dynamic balance. Many of the 100 folks on this list
are leaders and activists
in the North SF Bay Area. The creative thrust of the list centered on
ecology and social justice
issues. Generally I have been pulling out the best and most dramatic
writing from the A16
conversations and sending it into the GreenAction mix of stories. People
have been responding
very positively to these strong and intense stories of committment. Many
attend direct actions in
the SF Bay area and beyond. -Scott Hess, Petaluma, CA Send blank email

** Without the globo-cops, the rules of power-capitalism cannot be enforced.
The United States of America has proven itself to be a dangerous aggressor,
manufacturing,
stockpiling, exporting and using weapons which cause mass destruction
around the globe. It has
repeatedly been the aggressor in conflicts, and is the only country to have
used not only biological
and chemical weapons, but also nuclear weapons. In the best interest of the
international
community, the U.S. should discontinue its weapons regime and begin
dismantling existing
weapons systems so they will no longer be a threat to the world at large.
A team of citizen
inspectors are needed to help monitor and assist in dismantling this
dangerous military machine.
The U.S., although the biggest threat to global peace, is not the only
state in need of help from its
citizens to disarm. We ask those living in other warmaking countries to
join with us and
coordinate similar campaigns.
We are looking to start a nationwide campaign in the U.S. the Mad Anarchist
Bakers' League calls
for those interested in helping with this massive undertaking to sign up
here to help us coordinate
our efforts. BE ADVISED: Those advocating harm to living things need not
apply. http://www.egroups.com/group/citizeninspections
